High Power Laboratory Project Senai, Brazil
As a result of its strategic partnership with DNV GL, KMS energy consultancy is actively involved in the project development and technical advisory of a new High Power Laboratory in Senai, Brazil.
To support the successful realization of this facility, KMS energy consultancy is responsible for the technical analysis and verification of supplier proposals for components subject to stringent and highly specialized requirements. These requirements are derived from the conceptual and basic design of the High Power Laboratory developed by DNV GL. In its final configuration, the laboratory will be equipped with two 15 kV generators rated at 2,500 MVA each, as well as step-up transformers with a maximum voltage level of 145 kV.
As an integral member of the project team, KMS energy consultancy focuses on the verification of final design criteria and the technical assessment and discussion of proposals related to the construction of the primary installations. This includes ensuring that all design and engineering solutions comply with the extreme electrical, mechanical, and thermal stresses associated with high-power short-circuit testing.
In addition, KMS energy consultancy has supported the overall organization and coordination of the delivery of special technical requirements. This support included the development of a prioritized overview of critical components and the systematic reduction of technical uncertainties related to earthing systems, busbar configurations, disconnectors, and laboratory control systems.
Given that virtually all primary installation components in a High Power Laboratory are subject to repetitive short-circuit conditions, their specification and assessment require a very high level of domain-specific expertise. The evaluation of such components can only be performed by engineers with extensive experience in High Power Testing.
Through the involvement of Mr. P. Knol, a globally recognized Test Leader with more than 30 years of experience in the field and active participation in IEC standardization, KMS Energy Consultancy consistently meets the high technical expectations of both DNV GL and the end customer, contributing to a robust, reliable, and future-proof High Power Laboratory.
